The Wright brothers did a great deal of studying on the flight of birds. They often rode their bicycles to a popular picnic area south of their home in Dayton called the “Pinnacles” to watch the many birds that flew there. They observed that birds soared into the wind and that the air flowing over the curved surface of their wings created lift.
